Preparing for a Date or a Romantically-Themed Party? Create the Perfect Ambience with these Tips!

By Chris Latham

Valentine's Day is nearly upon us and whether you are single or not, the new year brings new parties, and Valentine's Day is no exception. Instead of going to a party, why not throw one yourself? It's a perfect way for the single people you know to get in a room and meet each other and a great way to make you look good and jump up a few notches on the social ladder.

First of all, dcor, you need to make your otherwise normal bedroom a sumptuous boudoir that calls out for relaxation and pleasure! One way to achieve this is the use of blankets and throws to add many different textures, which will excite when touched and using dark shades of red and purple always evoke a passionate response. Lighting is probably the most important part of setting the mood and there is really only one way to go when you think of romance and lighting: candlelight.

There are many other possibilities for romantic settings to surround your candles. A Parisian cocktail party is a popular theme. Ask your guests to dress to impress as sparkly cocktail dresses will be perfectly lit up to create a glamorous feel. Your candles can be placed in old wine bottles and lit early so the wax melts down the neck of the bottle. This will create a vintage feel in keeping with the Parisian theme and is an economical way to get rid of old wine bottles!

Another theme you can't go wrong with is a Speakeasy Party, set during the Prohibition period where alcohol was illegal and people had private bars in their basements. The dress code is 1920s which everyone is familiar with so it'll be an easy jump for anyone a little nervous. Your dcor can be simple too, candles in old wine bottles on the bar and tables and hanging lamps on the walls will add a cool, vintage look. Add a little 1920s big band music and some dancing flapper girls and you've got yourself a real retro celebration!

There are so many other opportunities to add light with candles in every aspect of your party or romantic occasion. With floating candles, you can turn your punch bowl into a work of art and they are perfect if you have any water features in your garden. Also the added sense of smell with scented candles can add something extra special for your guests or partner to experience. Candles come in all shapes and sizes so shop around and you will be able to find anything to fit your theme. Look online for great deals on bulk purchases so you can really go big to impress your guests and fill the room with romance.

It's easy to create ambience and romance, even in a party setting so even if it's the first party you've thrown with a romantic vibe and theme, you can always make it something ultra special with just a few small touches. It just takes a little time to set the mood but the pleasure you can bring to your special event will be remembered all year.
